Lost paintings

The following images are of 17 previously unknown works by Michael Canney, discovered in July 2010. They had been bundled together hurriedly in a roll, inside brown paper marked “paintings cut from stretchers” and left in storage in a damp basement. Stylistically they appear to date from the 1970s and/or 1980s. Their condition is variable, but all are approximately 24in x 18in, mostly oil or alkyd, with some apparently incorporating areas of gouache or other water-soluble paint. Two are painted verso. None have titles, and only two have a date, “1970s”, and orientation directions.
